The Adult Appendicitis Score provides probability of acute appendicitis in adult patients. The score has not been validated in children. It is not recommended to use this score in children with suspected appendicitis. The score has been developed in Helsinki University Hospital, Finland, and validated in two university hospitals in Finland.
Notice that if some variables are ignored, the score is unreliable and may show too low probability. This score has been developed for physicians working on acute care, and it’s use requires basic knowledge of clinical examination. Although the score provides some recommendations, the final decision on patient’s management should not be based only on the score but on physician’s clinical assessment.
